Re: Captions cover Mouth (iPad) Zoom Ticket #8198634
#ZoomCaptions
From Austin Hooper (Zoom) Jan 13, 2021, 23:04 PST
Hi Carolyn, After speaking with my colleagues, I regret to inform you that currently, there is no way to move the caption box and video thumbnail, and change the font size for captions on iOS devices. However, I'm more than happy to raise a feature request for these, as I think they would be a great feature to have for anyone utilizing an IPad. I'd also like to apologize again for the delay in responses to this. I personally do not have access to an iPad, so it's difficult for me to test these features to ensure we have all of the right information. I also apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused in the interim. Thanks! Austin ===================== To Austin Hooper (Zoom) Jan 14, 2020 7:52 PST RE: Captions on the iPad that cover the video face of speaker Ticket# 8139880 & 8198634 Please do what you can...is there any other category to use? Obviously, to someone who lipreads this is a lot more than a "feature". Can you put it in a "fix" category? If not, then "features" is what it is going to be....
I appreciate your doing whatever can be done to move this forward. I am convinced it could be fixed, given enough resources. But I realize you are not in charge of resources. In the meantime I can pursue through the ADA channel (American for Disabilities Act).
Thanks so much for taking on this ticket even though you didn't have access to an iPad! (Seems like a management failure here--putting you in a position to work on a ticket about an iPad...with no access to an iPad!)
I can see you have done your best, considering the situation...so I appreciate that.

Scenario: This handout is for Zoom Pro hosts, like me, who need to schedule the meetings (therefore the meetings use my host settings...such as captions) but where I cannot attend the actual meeting due to other commitments. -- Carolyn J. Odio

Sorry Jaynie discovered that the link above does not work. Thanks Jaynie! So I contacted support & confirmed work is being done. I made sure that Jaynie's suggestion (double the size of the font) was included. I added the CHAT conversation with Ivy here. It is a .txt file.

This instruction sheet is my first draft, so I would appreciate any corrections/edits/etc. I have added the same document, both in Microsoft Word and Adobe pdf, hoping both come through...

Re: Zoom Tip - Chat

ANOTHER TIP: There is a setting where Chat saves automatically, when you end the meeting.
Enter in Google: www.zoom.us Log in with ID and Password Click on My Account in upper right corner On left menu, go to Settings: Auto saving chatsAutomatically save all in-meeting chats so that hosts do not need to manually save the text of the chat after the meeting starts.- Carolyn J. Odio

Re: Breakout Rooms with Zoom integrated Captioning
#ZoomCaptions
Alan: Thanks for this information. It seems to suggest that if you have a person assigned to caption, only one breakout room is captioned (probably the room that this person is in..?)
But if you have a 3rd Party captioning, it does not mention that restriction...I am thinking Ava for the 3rd Party..but I cannot envision how I would do this, for all the breakout rooms. I would need to use the API token and that would mean going into each breakout room to set Ava up...thoughts? -- Carolyn J. Odio

Has the host followed the setup requirements for Zoom captioning? See my reply to Wayne in the post below. Zoom is always changing and my suggestion to any administrator is to keep up to date on Zoom by reading the release notes for the updates. -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group |

I will be emailing Zoom also but does anyone know why Zoom Business would or would not have automatic captions? I am advocating for a book club I belong to.

Make sure your facilitator with the Pro version of Zoom has the latest release. There are two areas where you need to enable Zoom captions - the Zoom account administration and also within the meeting. The area to look at within the account administration is "Meeting Advanced." Carolyn Odio has a post on captioning within Zoom including step by step video and corresponding documents, Zoom has incorporated Captions. Go to the beginning of the thread to find her contribution. It is on the second page. -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group |

Alan, I am puzzled by the comment, "Rich
Osborne from North Bay prefers not to use MS applications "
I regret somehow having given you this impression. I am an ardent user of Microsoft applications and used to be proficient in their use, although my skills have atrophied significantly. I have used free open-source software, like Linux and Libre Office,
and maybe I spoke well about them since they are free, but I have discontinued their use primarily because the cost of Microsoft Office is not excessive and has superior functionality plus there are differences that can be problematic.

We also have a GWN account and use various elements of it, but not their document, spreadsheet, and presentation programs. If I remember correctly, Rich Osborne from North Bay prefers not to use MS applications and I think I received a document from Sara Oser that had a .odt extension (open document format like Libre Office.) You can ask them if they use GWN. I will email you their addresses. -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group |

Here is a sample of what the Zoom Live transcript captions look like.

Re: Breakout Rooms with Zoom integrated Captioning
#ZoomCaptions
Wayne, Any of the paid versions of Zoom now feature free captioning. Make sure you or your facilitator have downloaded the latest Zoom update. When you turn on Live Transcribe the captions should appear across the BOTTOM of the screen (white lettering against black background), and is very readable. You can click the arrow next to "CC" on the bottom of the screen and adjust captioning settings (e..g., you can increase the size of the lettering). The large white rectangular box you may be referring to (on the right side of the screen) is if you have clicked "show transcription" and you will see a scrolling record of the transcription; plus you can also save that transcription. I hope this is helpful. Steve Wolfert HLAA Westchester (NY) On Thu, Jan 7, 2021 at 11:29 AM Wayne Giese <yourservetennis@...> wrote:

Wayne Giese
Folks, I am using the free basic account for Zoom but have a facilitator that has the premium version. We have tried the captions. I am frustrated by what I see and maybe I and the premium holder are missing something. For my captions what I see is a large white rectangular box. Inside that box is a light dark rectangular box and inside that are the letters (captions) in black. It is very hard to read. Solutions? I see nothing in Zoom help. Thanks! My experience is that Zoom Pro (paid Zoom) integrated Captions do not work inside the Zoom breakout rooms. Has that been your experience? Thank you Alan for your reply about MailChimp and Microsoft 365 for Nonprofits. I assume you’re using Microsoft 365. I’m curious to hear if any chapters are using Google Workspace for Nonprofits?
