Are you changing your domain registrar or changing the website host?

Your chapter's domain name belongs to you as long as you pay for it. It does not have to change with your host. The host is the company that provides the space and service for your website. As an example, one chapter purchased its domain name through GoDaddy (registrar). Their site was hosted through WordPress.com. They then decided to move their hosting to Bluehost and eventually made Bluehost their domain registrar (moving it from GoDaddy.) Through all this, Gmail provided their chapter's email service.

Here is a link to an article on applying and initial setup for Workspace.

Google for Nonprofits YouTube Channel

Google Domains has an article on transferring your domain name to Google Domains. Again, you do not have to switch domain registrar to "keep" your domain name. It is yours until you stop paying for it or transfer the rights to someone else. Keep in mind that changing your domain registrar also entails issues with your website such as Domain Name Servers (DNS) which normally is not an issue. I was involved with a registrar change where there were SSL security issues that required assistance from the host.

Thank you Ann for the link. I will go read it next.

I assume you mean apply through TechSoup? Not yet. I thought we needed an email address on Google first? This feels like a chicken and egg problem. What to do first? I figured “move domain to google, create new google ID, then apply to TechSoup with that Google ID to buy Google Workspace, then create new emails within for board members”.

I’m flying blind. Maybe the info is in the link you provided?

Questions
  1. Do you want to change domain hosts from GoDaddy to Google too?
  2. Has HLAA Pen applied for Google Workspace yet?

I’m not very techie, so if your chapter has done this, can you tell me

  1. How much technical expertise it took?
  2. Was it hard?
  3. How long did the process take?
  4. Any wisdom you can share?

Add Timestamps to Your YouTube Videos #recordings #youtube

Alan Katsura, Moderator, CA Diablo Valley Chapter

Help your viewers. With many of our chapter meeting recordings running about 90 minutes, that takes a huge chunk of time out of a person's day. If you can break up your meeting into sections, viewers can see the video's portion that interests them. See the example below. Our chapter website may not interest you, but the HLAA website might. And, maybe you are not interested in the Q&A session. You have 15 minutes of video to view. Click on the timestamp, and the video player starts at that point. In the Video Details section for a particular video in YouTube Studio, it is simple to place the timestamps in the Description section as shown. Use the time format h:mm:ss. To access the Video Details section, from your Channel Content page, hover over the video and click on the pencil icon (details.)

Re: My chapter is considering a website - where do we start? #website

Tony Ferack

The volunteer that has been maintaining our website, www.hearingloss-mi.org, is retiring.  We are looking for someone that can maintain the site for us.  Can someone recommend a company that can handle routine maintenance?  Recently, someone pointed out that we are missing a SSL certificate.  I understand this may not be serious, but perhaps input from others will help clarify.  I believe we need to make sure plug-ins may need to be updated on a regular basis???  Any ideas on what we should expect to pay for any services?  The immediate need is to get someone to have access to the site so that our retiree can pass the baton.

I was able to access the California FB page from both the link in the top right on the HLAA-CA main page and I was able to access it from my own page as well.

Our State Association is conducting an audit with our chapters - making sure their chapter information is displayed on the HLAA and State websites correctly. While doing this, I noticed that our Facebook site is blocked with the message, "This content isn't available right now." Has anyone else run into this problem?

Re: Zoom Meeting, scheduled by the Host, but the Host Does not Attend #zoom

Today I tried something new with the "Host Key" meeting (as I will call it).

I set up the scheduled meeting and sent the meeting link to a participant. She entered the meeting (without me being present) and claimed the host key. She became the Host of the meeting.

While she was the Host (of my meeting) I attended another Zoom meeting, without incident.

I was elated that this happened seamlessly! Please pass along your experiences with this situation.

I still have to test the following scenario:

What is the advantage of me, not attending my meeting? Well, it is the fact that the meeting that I scheduled operates with my default host settings...which, in my case, it may mean that they can have zoom captions (live transcript) since I have a Zoom Pro account.

Re: Automatic Captions in Breakout Rooms #ZoomCaptions #zoom

Wayne, I would love to know how operator/control person does it! Is it "outside the zoom client?" and in a separate window next to zoom? I assume it is inside the zoom since you mentioned you could see it on "live transcript". I am hoping for more information from you. thanks!

If your Made for iPhone hearing device has sound quality issues when connected to an iPhone 12 model. You might hear unexpected noise from some Made for iPhone hearing devices.

When your Made for iPhone hearing device is connected to your iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max, you might notice:

  • Loud static
  • Interrupted or intermittent audio
  • Garbled audio

To fix this, update your iPhone to iOS 14.2.1 or later.
