Thanks, Bruce. I've heard about it vaguely
before.A Web search indicates that we do have some sort of
service here, but it's paid for in one way or another by the
users and it doesn't seem to advertise where I might expect. ======================================================================================

In the US, there are several companies that provide real-time captioning of phone calls. They are paid for by the Federal Communications Commission and are currently not available outside of the United States. The websites for the land-line companies are: http:/clearcaptions.com There are several phone apps which are similarly government supported. I hope this helps clear up your confusion. It's the same all over, England, Wales,
Scotland, Northern Ireland. However, I haven't been able to find
proof that such a service is unavailable from any UK telecoms
service provider. ======================================================================================

We have captioning available on both cell phones and land lines. It’s government funded. The spoken words appear on a screen. That isn’t a service provided in England? How about the rest of the UK? Carol

I don't use a cell phone because I am too deaf
and too dyspraxic to use texting. I only have one for
two-factor authentication messages, and for use as as a camera. ======================================================================================

I can't help because I don't know what you
mean by 'phone captioning services'. We don't have the fastest
broadband, but most people get a pretty good service. ======================================================================================

Hearing Aid Compatibility Deployment Benchmarks for Wireless Handsets Increasing
Margaret Myatt
Hearing Aid Compatibility Deployment Benchmarks for Wireless Handsets IncreasingInbox
![]()
On September 28, 2021, the FCC reminded wireless handset manufacturers and service providers of upcoming increases in deployment benchmarks for hearing aid-compatible handsets. Specifically, the benchmark for handset manufacturers will increase from 66% to 85% on October 4, 2021, and the benchmark for Tier I service providers will increase from 66% to 85% on April 4, 2022. For non-Tier I service providers, the benchmark will increase from 66% to 85% on April 3, 2023.
The Commission continues to assess whether further changes are needed to facilitate use of wireless handsets by those with hearing loss, including whether to require 100% of covered handsets to be hearing aid-compatible. The Commission will also review the Hearing Aid Compatibility Task Force’s final report on this topic, which is due by December 31, 2022.
The FCC reminded handset manufacturers and service providers that they must comply with the new 85% benchmark and the Commission’s other hearing aid compatibility rules or face possible enforcement proceedings and forfeitures.

Any thoughts what options or grant writing templates? Not sure room looping is best option.
Hi Char,
A friend just touched base with me. She’s involved with the La Jolla Community Center. They’d like to write a grant for around $100k to install a sound/amplification system to make the center more accessible to their hard of hearing members. They need expert advice from someone (voluntary) who can assist their marketing director in writing the grant and proposing one or more systems that would meet their desired goal.
Do you know anyone within HLAA who has the knowledge and experience to work with the Center?
Thanks
