Re: CART and Automatic Captions
You do not need to disable the Enable live transcription service to show transcript on the side panel in meeting setting in the Zoom online settings when using CART.
In the actual meeting window do not activate Live transcript, Enable AutoTranscription when using CART.

CART and Automatic Captions
I have the automatic captions (ASR) enabled in my settings and they are working well. When we have a person providing CART, do I need to change my settings so the ASR captions don't interfere with the CART? Or if I just don't turn the ASR on will that disable them for everyone else?

Practice Breakout Rooms in Zoom
#zoom
All of these instructions are my own "trial and error" so if you find something doesn't work .... or works differently for you, PLEASE let me know...that is the way I learn this stuff
Practice Breakout Rooms I attach two documents regarding my instructions with Breakout Rooms in Zoom. If you want to experiment with Breakout rooms, one idea is to add all of your devices to your Zoom meeting. I have an iPad and an iPhone so there were "three" of us...barely enough to play around with breakout rooms, but it did teach me the basics.
Better still, I thought I would have a zoom meeting just to play and practice with Breakout Rooms. My idea is to pass the "Host" around the group, at this meeting, and each person would be able to experience both what the participant "sees" and then also what the host "sees" and does--with us guiding the host through the steps.
Right now I have it scheduled for Sunday afternoon on Jan 31st at 1 PM (Pacific Time) for the weekend session and again on Monday morning on Feb 1st at 10 AM (Pacific Time) for weekdays. Both sessions would be doing the same thing. It would be good to read the handout attached before the meeting and reviewing the videos at the bottom.
So if you interested in playing with breakout rooms, you are welcome to join! Just send me your email and specify which meeting you want to attend. I will send you the zoom link about ½ hr before the meeting begins. --Carolyn J. Odio

Hearing Aid Manufacturers Are NOT Adding Telecoil to their Rechargeable Hearing Aids
#Telecoil
I enclose a letter that addresses this very important subject:
Robert Bishton <upstatehearingloops@...>Thu, Jan 21, 2021 at 4:51 PMTo: carolyn@...
Dear Carolyn, I have been a Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist for nearly 30 years as well as a hearing loop installer for the past couple of years, I feel our biggest obstacle right now is this: We have hearing aid manufacturers designing rechargeable RIC hearing aids w/o t-coils, nearly all of them. In 2019nearly 80% of all hearing aids dispensed were RICs and the vast majority of them rechargeable as well. For those that don't know, a RIC product is the popular small BTE model that has just the small wire with a dome that goes into the auditory canal. Some are dispensed with a mold for better fit and more gain. A standard BTE with a tube which is generally larger and more noticeable are much more likely to be available in rechargeable models but not always. The problem is this... we have audiologists and hearing instrument specialists nationwide who simply are not addressing the t-coil when discussing options with their patients. The patients want rechargeable and instruments that are not noticeable. That's the RIC product. In New York State as well as Florida, Arizona, Rhode Island, Utah and Delaware it is mandatory by law that we as dispensers discuss the t-coil and it's benefits prior to ordering hearing aids for patients. Several others are involved in legislation to include the discussion of t-coils when ordering hearing aids. We need to band together and write to all the hearing aid manufacturers and lobby to have t-coils built in to all rechargeable RIC products moving forward. Perhaps some of your members have the time to delve into this to see who we should write to at each manufacturer. I have attached a link to a letter I submitted to Hearing Review in March of 2019. New typeface for low vision
#Announcement
The previous rule of thumb for text fonts for people with low vision was to use a san serif font for text. The Braille Institute recently releases a new hybrid typeface that provides greater legibility and readability for low vision readers. It is called Atkinson Hyperlegibile and can be downloaded here:

Thanks for your input.
My Disclosure (smile): This is a collaborative document, so you can email me edits/corrections to it. Obviously, it is not professional...just "home grown" as it reflects my experience with trial and error. If you want a practice session, just let me know. That is where I learn the most. The most recent copy is below. (Remember to check the Last Update is in the footer.) Again I add 2 versions of the same document: pdf and word. -- Carolyn J. Odio

Re: Captions cover Mouth (iPad) Zoom Ticket #8198634

From Austin Hooper (Zoom) Jan 13, 2021, 23:04 PST
Hi Carolyn, After speaking with my colleagues, I regret to inform you that currently, there is no way to move the caption box and video thumbnail, and change the font size for captions on iOS devices. However, I'm more than happy to raise a feature request for these, as I think they would be a great feature to have for anyone utilizing an IPad. I'd also like to apologize again for the delay in responses to this. I personally do not have access to an iPad, so it's difficult for me to test these features to ensure we have all of the right information. I also apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused in the interim. Thanks! Austin ===================== To Austin Hooper (Zoom) Jan 14, 2020 7:52 PST RE: Captions on the iPad that cover the video face of speaker Ticket# 8139880 & 8198634 Please do what you can...is there any other category to use? Obviously, to someone who lipreads this is a lot more than a "feature". Can you put it in a "fix" category? If not, then "features" is what it is going to be....
I appreciate your doing whatever can be done to move this forward. I am convinced it could be fixed, given enough resources. But I realize you are not in charge of resources. In the meantime I can pursue through the ADA channel (American for Disabilities Act).
Thanks so much for taking on this ticket even though you didn't have access to an iPad! (Seems like a management failure here--putting you in a position to work on a ticket about an iPad...with no access to an iPad!)
I can see you have done your best, considering the situation...so I appreciate that.

Scenario: This handout is for Zoom Pro hosts, like me, who need to schedule the meetings (therefore the meetings use my host settings...such as captions) but where I cannot attend the actual meeting due to other commitments. -- Carolyn J. Odio

Sorry Jaynie discovered that the link above does not work. Thanks Jaynie! So I contacted support & confirmed work is being done. I made sure that Jaynie's suggestion (double the size of the font) was included. I added the CHAT conversation with Ivy here. It is a .txt file.

ANOTHER TIP: There is a setting where Chat saves automatically, when you end the meeting.
Enter in Google: www.zoom.us Log in with ID and Password Click on My Account in upper right corner On left menu, go to Settings: Auto saving chatsAutomatically save all in-meeting chats so that hosts do not need to manually save the text of the chat after the meeting starts.- Carolyn J. Odio

Re: Breakout Rooms with Zoom integrated Captioning
#ZoomCaptions
Alan: Thanks for this information. It seems to suggest that if you have a person assigned to caption, only one breakout room is captioned (probably the room that this person is in..?)
But if you have a 3rd Party captioning, it does not mention that restriction...I am thinking Ava for the 3rd Party..but I cannot envision how I would do this, for all the breakout rooms. I would need to use the API token and that would mean going into each breakout room to set Ava up...thoughts? -- Carolyn J. Odio
