Thank you, Alan and Margaret for your replies.

Re: Beulr and other AI note taking programs and Zoom #zoom

Zoom was more stable in the early days. But most important is that GoogleMeet didn’t have breakout rooms, nor several of the other features that were important for some individuals and organizations. If there was one feature that was important, then it’s easier to stick with one program.

Hi Margaret

This post has nothing to do with captioning or comparing Zoom to Google Meet. It has to do with informing meeting organizers about artificial intelligence bots that take notes during a meeting. Organizers may run into this issue in their meetings, and I want to alert them beforehand to this possibility.

Hi, Tom

Here is the link to the Beulr website if you require additional information. It is not a captioning program. My understanding likens it to a secretary. I did receive an update from Zoom support which I corrected my original post.

I am presently in a Google Meet online call as I type.  It is wildly superior interface.  Captions are excellent.  Invitation process was easy-peasy.

I experienced this for the first time the other day. This is informational only and does NOT necessarily pose a threat to your meeting.

You may have a registrant to your meeting ask for permission to use an AI bot to take the meeting notes. In this case, the program is Beulr, but I am sure there are other programs that work similarly. Zoom is aware of Beulr and similar programs. Beulr was on Shark Tank. I may try it to see how it works. I want to let others know what to expect if they experience a similar program asking for access to the meeting.

  • The bot cannot access the meeting without a registrant granted admission.
  • A notification will appear announcing the now attendee wishes permission to use the program to record notes - something like an AI secretary.
  • You can grant or deny permission.
  • If you grant permission (this pertains to Buelr - others may be different,) the attendee can leave the meeting, but the AI bot will remain until the conclusion and send its report to the registrant.
  • In my case, there wasn't any indication that the bot existed in the meeting or was there a way to terminate the bot, and when the participant left, was ever there.

Hi Denise

Zoom is supposed to send a link to the video to attendees. I will share it here. I did not find the type of information I was looking for. That is not to say the webinar did not contain helpful info. It dealt with presenting the hybrid meeting and not the hardware and software setup. The problem in attacking hybrid setups so much depends on the equipment the facility has and what you have access to. You want to try to avoid purchasing any equipment until you are sure about going forward with hybrid meetings. Captioning adds a dimension that articles do not cover. I have found this YouTube channel helpful.

Re: Zoom Chat New Admin email received today #zoom

Alan Katsura, Moderator, CA Diablo Valley Chapter

Hi Jaynie

I updated to version 5.10.0. I received the update message when I logged into my admin section. I think Zoom rearranged parts of the administration section of the menu. I am unaware of any changes to the meeting settings. Live streaming is now available on YouTube and Twitch. Any reference to Zoom Chat does not affect our meetings. Zoom Chat is an additional feature marketed by Zoom - similar to a video call. It has nothing to do with the chat feature in Zoom Meetings. You can review the latest update log.

Great article.  I will share this with my hearing loss group.

One quick question about looping a cab. . . I assume there is a microphone on the dash and copper wiring in the back seat of the vehicle?
