Re: Zoom has incorporated Captions
#ZoomCaptions
Zoom has initiated free captions for paid Zoom accounts. If you have a paid Zoom account you need to check can additional setting in your Zoom web portal. Enable live transcription service… See the image below. After you do that your CC icon
in your Zoom window will change. It will now have additional text that says Live Transcript. Click on the CC button and select Enable Live Transcription. If you have been using Otter captions you will need to disconnect the Otter live stream.

Zoom has incorporated Captions
#ZoomCaptions
Cheri,
Are you saying that you are getting captions with Zoom without opening a separate window for Otter? I just updated my Zoom to 5.4.6 but no captions. I have a free Otter account and sometimes open Otter in one window, open Zoom in another and size them to both fit on the screen. But sounds like you are getting captions at the bottom of your Zoom screen without opening Otter. Is that right???
Thanks,
Marilyn

This is very confusing with everyone contributing. I tried today and ask two options. User type captions or use API code. Would someone please give a direct non confusing answer. When ask API code, it copies, now what????????

George, as we agreed my Zoom version upgrade to 5.4.4 is due to having a MAC. I believe you mentioned that a PC gives you version upgrade to 5.4.3. Strange, isn't it?

Re: Zoom has incorporated Captions

The feature is in zoom...it does not have anything to do with a paid Otter account. (I do not have a paid Otter account) It works as a Zoom feature. (I do have an inkling that, behind the scenes that zoom is using otter, however...but I have no idea actually how zoom set this up.) Carolyn J. Odio

Hi Cheri, As a beta tester, what version are you on? As of 10:30 AM PT 12/7/2020, the officially released Windows version is still V5,4,3.

Here’s what happened to me: I have a Paid Otter and a Paid Zoom. I also requested to be a beta tester, but never garnered a reply. Lo and behold one day, I noticed the live transcribe button and presto, captions! I believe it’s been almost a month now. I’m setting all my meetings now because I can bring the captions. ~Cheri Cheri Perazzoli

Re: Zoom has incorporated Captions
#ZoomCaptions
All,
I am wondering if this is for those who have paid Otter.ai accounts. I just logged into our chapter account and noticed the availability of captioning generated by Otter.ai. I also know our chapter has a paid Otter.ai plan. It also displayed the menu that Carolyn describes. I know Carolyn experiments with various ways of getting captions into Zoom and maybe she has an Otter.ai account linked to her Zoom account. My personal Zoom account does not display the Enable Auto Transcription option. The current download listed for Zoom Client for Meetings is 5.4.3. Zoom is working on captions within Zoom Meeting and some of us were privileged to unannounced information about the progress of this project including that rollout would be done in phases - but not defining phases. Carolyn, can you verify? -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group

Am I missing something/ This is not a true caption setup. You still need to have someone to type while online. It is not an ASR. Am I wrong?

Re: Zoom has incorporated Captions

George and Carolyn, Thanks for this update. I am following this closely as I have been advocating with many organizations and agencies to include this option. Many groups have paid Zoom accounts, but do not have paid Otter accounts. It’s gotten to the point that I’ve had to set up meetings just so those of us who need captions have them. Onward! ~Cheri

#Grammarly
Grammarly has extended its free offering of Premium-level service to qualified nonprofits through 2021. Please read the eligibility requirements as there are certain requirements that not all HLAA chapters will meet, such as a qualifying email address. If you have followed the practices in Ann Thomas's "Branding and Business Tools for HLAA Leaders" Chapter Development Workshop Recording you shouldn't have any issues qualifying for the offer.
If you have met Grammarly's requirements, you can request a license here. You can compare plan features here. I use Grammarly because I am a lazy writer and a poor typist. Whether you are composing a professional piece (grant, advocacy, etc.) or posting to social media, Grammarly can help ensure your writing is accurate. -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group

Wow Zoom has captions! You may have already known about this but just in case, I am passing this along. I just learned about it.
Since I do not have a free account, rather I have a paid account, I do not know if the free account has this functionality.
1) I am on Version 5.4.4 and here is where you update your zoom account...just in case you need to:
I just went into settings and turned it on.
Here is what it looks like. Go ahead and try it.
2) Go to www.zoom.us:
3) And then when you enter the meeting, as a host, you need to click on the CC Icon and click on: Live Transcript: Enable Auto Transcription!

Re: Zoom Tip - Chat
#zoom
You can increase/decrease the font size in the chat window when there are closed captions. From the CC icon, CC > Subtitle Settings > Accessibility > Chat Display Size.
If there aren't closed captions, go to your video settings (use the caret next to the video camera icon) and then Accessibility. When I started a Zoom meeting, I was able to use the Control +/- as a host. I wasn't able to do so as a co-host or participant. I am using a PC desktop with W10. -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group

Zoom Tip - Chat
#zoom
CHAT--Change Size of Type
I noticed that if you bring up Chat (on the Mac) you can hold down the command key and click on the plus or minus to change the size of the type. Alan brought up a good point, as this does not work on the PC. Does it work on the PC some other way? I could not make that work on an iPhone or iPad as I have no idea how to hold down a key on either device. Maybe someone else knows. Making Chat a Pop-Out also helps to enlarge the Chat screen itself. Helpful for low-vision folks! CHAT--Save Chat Just a reminder that you can save chat: Open Chat; Click on bottom right 3 dot menu; Save Chat. (I do not see that option on the iPhone or iPad.) I do believe that also works on the PC. -- Carolyn J. Odio
