There have been discussions about personal privacy in recorded meetings. Many meetings, including all the HLAA meetings and webinars, are recorded and posted in various manners for later viewing. I searched this group and also the HLAA Leaders group and did not find any mention of this subject. Zoom does have a feature that requires all participants to consent to be recorded or leave the meeting. Dear Alan and all: Alan, thanks for sharing what you know. Just to clarify, is HLAA using the free version of Groups.io (with grandfathered calendar feature)? I've setup a preliminary google groups group for our chapter that the steering committee has been playing around with. Seems okay, so far. Groups.io looks like it might be easier, and I may give that a try. Steve

Hi Steve
I'm just a volunteer moderator for this group. I do not know the history of the decision on using Groups.io. I do know the person who was probably associated with setting this up is very capable. I'm not familiar with Google Groups so I cannot go through the advantages and disadvantages of each platform. If you are considering Google Groups because you have a G Suite for Nonprofits (formerly Google for Nonprofits) it might be nice to have as much as possible in one place for your chapter. A glance at Google Groups leads me to believe Groups.io has more features but you may not need them. Hashtags, chat, polling, photos directory, files, databases, and Wiki are features I did not see in Google Groups. The calendar is no longer included with the free Groups.io plan. It is grandfathered into our plan. The HLAALeaders group uses the calendar feature to create a national calendar for chapter meetings. -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group

Hi Alan, Question for you, if you have the time. I was looking into setting up a google group for our HLAA Greater Baltimore Chapter, and I slowly came to realize that the Groups setup by HLAA National are not Google Groups, but use a different technology from a different company called groups.io. This very email that I'm writing now is going to HLAATech at groups.io. So, what about groups.io? Did you look into using groups.io instead of google groups?
Should chapters be looking into Groups.io? Thanks for any comments you might have. Steve Wonnell Treasurer, HLAA, Greater Baltimore Chapter

You are correct. I notice that too--that in this forum format you cannot double click it. I also added another screen shot example of the problem.
Here is the content of the email of Nov 10th from Michael Lampa: Hi Carolyn, Good day, I have submitted a ticket to our engineering team to have this checked. Will let you know once we receive a response. Thanks Michael -- Carolyn J. Odio

Yes, need an option to be able to move the caption box. No one position is suitable at all times. I will make a suggestion that you can open full subtitles and it will appear on one side rather at the bottoms but of course will further reduce the viewable screen of people you are trying to see. Dan

Re: Integrated Zoom captioning
I need clarification. Is it just the ‘host’ who needs to have otter ai, or does everyone who wants to see captions have to have it? Our chapter has the Zoom Pro program, but it is in my name.

Hi users,
You can help make your message easily searchable by using "tags." When you start a new topic, after your title, click on the dropdown menu "Add Tags" or create your own new tags by using the "#" symbol and words that will make your message topic searchable. Click on the "Add Tags" dropdown menu to see examples. Now when you go to messages, click on the "Hashtag" button and select the topic you are researching. It will list everything with that hashtag. Currently, there is a wealth of information on captioning within Zoom and captioning in general. There has been a lot of time and effort in finding ways to incorporate captions into video conferencing platforms, particularly Zoom. People have created trial accounts and tested ways to get captions into Zoom or have captions available only to the attendee. Only two messages are tag with "#ZoomCaptioning." You can do a normal search, but that will show all messages with the search word in the content even if that word is not the focus of the message. Don't let your hard work go unnoticed! -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group

Re: Integrated Zoom captioning
I believe this has been available for a while now. But it also requires a paid Otter a.i. account @ $13/month or $99/year. That is NOT accessibility. Zoom needs to get their own act together.

I have copied/paste my email which addresses Ann's topic. If you want to see the comparison for yourself, send me a request and I will forward to you the actual email, so you have access to the zip files below. (I am not techy enough to know how to imbed my email here, so you that you would have access to the zip files--but if anyone knows please let me know!)

Re: Do not update to the latest version of Zoom if you use ASR captions and the API code

I'm following up on the question from yesterday's webinar where Debbie Schaaf presented. The question was regarding the CART delay using Zoom. I have seen the delay while using paid CART. It was back in April when everyone was just getting on board with videoconferencing. I asked my CART provider about this and her response was "It could be the way the CART provider is streaming the captions through to Zoom. If the CART provider is using a third party streaming company that could be a reason for the delay. Also, it could be the internet or Zoom. We don't use a third party streaming company and our software allows us to stream directly into Zoom".

I know many of you are "Zoomed out," but if anyone is interested - I spotted this on YouTube today. I guess you would describe it as a streaming webinar on YouTube by Google for Nonprofits - Live Q&A. I have never participated in this format before, so it may be interesting to see. The webinar is scheduled for 10/29/20 at 7:00 am. Since I am in California, I assume that it is for our time zone. Here is the link for those who are interested. Please follow this message and let others know what you thought of the experience.
