Any thoughts what options or grant writing templates? Not sure room looping is best option.
Hi Char,
A friend just touched base with me. She’s involved with the La Jolla Community Center. They’d like to write a grant for around $100k to install a sound/amplification system to make the center more accessible to their hard of hearing members. They need expert advice from someone (voluntary) who can assist their marketing director in writing the grant and proposing one or more systems that would meet their desired goal.
Do you know anyone within HLAA who has the knowledge and experience to work with the Center?
Thanks
Char Sivertson

Earlens

Earlens is a completely different kind of hearing aid technology that delivers a much broader frequency of sound, so that music can be enjoyed. Musicians might be interested in exploring this (very expensive) unique technology. The closest available office is in Portland, OR. Here is a link to the current review in HearingTracker: Click Here
Does anyone on this forum use Earlens? If so, what is your experience with these unique hearing aids? They used to use light technology to transmit sound, and now, according to this review, Earlens is using radio frequency technology. Carolyn J. Odio

OMG, I figured it out! I had been going into Zoom by just typing in zoom.com in Chrome web browser. However, when all the zoom instructions say to click on the profile picture to check Zoom version, I realized they were also referring to the Zoom "Desktop Client". If anyone has had a similar issue, go into Zoom support or just Google how to start Zoom desktop client, and you can download it, or verify if you already have it. I already had it, but didn't realize it, ugh! If you have the blue icon on your taskbar on the bottom with the white video camera picture, that's the shortcut icon for Zoom Desktop Client. If you hover over that it says Start Zoom. Click on that and it will open up a window for Zoom that looks very different than what I've been seeing on zoom.com.
Then when the window first opens (before you log in) it shows the Zoom version at the bottom of the window, tada! Or after you log in, you can click on the profile image in upper right corner and then click Help-About Zoom to figure out the version. In the same menu then click Check for updates, and it will let you know that there is a new update 5.8 so go ahead and let it update to that. Whew! All this just to confirm that I had previously updated to version 5.7.8, which supposedly fixed the bugs from 5.7.7, but since they came out with another update so quickly, I'm guessing they still had some pesty bugs that still needed fixing! Why on earth Zoom would have a "desktop client" that looks different than the zoom.com view is beyond me! And they also have an App to maintain as well?! What a pain! Oh, and by the way, I contacted Zoom tech support and they got back to me fairly quickly, but after FOUR responses (the first 3 of which were bot/virtual automated responses, similar to what y'all said above in this string), they still didn't provide sufficient info/answer my questions/issue! Thanks again! Let's all cross our fingers & toes that the latest updates fix the weird issues we've been experiencing! Michelle

Thanks for the links again for checking the zoom version, those are similar to what I've been trying, but I don't see those menu options when I click my profile picture (which is not a picture, but just the generic "head"). I'm trying to attach my view here, hopefully this works. Scroll to the right to see my very limited "menu" that I see when clicking on profile.

Zoom release update 5.8.0 (PC only?) sometime earlier this week (09/20.) For those of you who are looking for help with Zoom, Zoom has, what I think, is one of the best help sections for any company supporting their product. Here is the link about their support page.

Sara
Remember on Saturday I had captions in the breakout room? Since Rich uses a PowerPoint, and if the version is a newer version in Microsoft 365, you can have captions within the presentation. Also, as long as you have a slide on display, it will continue to caption. Have a slide with general information on it display during the business part of the meeting and if the mic is issued, it will caption whatever is spoken. Access to this feature is in the provided link. -- Alan Katsura akatsura@... Moderator HLAA Tech Group

Projectors are less convenient, usually, than
a large computer display, connected to a laptop. That means only
two pieces of equipment to transport and set up instead of
three. Also, you can be sure that there will be no image size or
focus issues. ======================================================================================

Hi Michelle
The problems you listed I, and several others, had with Zoom 5.7.7. The latest version, 5.7.8 seems to solve those issues. Please let me know what version you were using. Julie says she had problems, but I thought she had updated before her meeting. If there are issues with the latest Zoom version, you need to contact Zoom support. Here is how to check for your Zoom version and how to update it. -- Alan Katsura akatsura@... Moderator HLAA Tech Group

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences & insights. We had some more weird issues in our meeting last night (primarily our co-host, who's screen froze up & she couldn't do most zoom functions, everyone's windows froze up but she could still hear us...she had to close the program or shut her computer down (no End mtg or Leave button!) & re-enter the mtg). Others' had issues where their screen froze up a couple times (from my view, but not sure what they saw on their end), but that could've been their weak connection. Carolyn, my view of Zoom on my desktop computer is very different from the views you're showing above. Is it perhaps that your version is an App versus the desktop version? I know most of us in the mtg last night had upgraded our zoom version to the latest after the weird issues a couple weeks ago, so not sure what's going on?? Anyone else continuing to have issues? I just tried to look for what version of zoom I'm on & couldn't figure it out after clicking on the zoom bot for chat help, and also trying to look up answers in zoom help/support articles. I consider myself pretty tech savvy, and feel that I shouldn't have to look so hard to figure out something that should be so simple! Very frustrating!
