Introduction to Google for Nonprofits Webinar #free #webinar #Google
I know many of you are "Zoomed out," but if anyone is interested - I spotted this on YouTube today. I guess you would describe it as a streaming webinar on YouTube by Google for Nonprofits - Live Q&A. I have never participated in this format before, so it may be interesting to see. The webinar is scheduled for 10/29/20 at 7:00 am. Since I am in California, I assume that it is for our time zone. Here is the link for those who are interested. Please follow this message and let others know what you thought of the experience.
Google for Nonprofits is free to organizations that qualify. If you have the right type of people, it can be immensely beneficial to your organization. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBGe_BijkLM -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group |

I have heard that some people have problems with activating their G Suite for Nonprofits (formerly Google for Nonprofits.) Google for Nonprofits (the organization) has simplified their activation process (their statement from a recent webinar.) Here is a short video (ten minutes) to guide you through the process.
If you are interested in acquiring G Suite for Nonprofits, Techsoup is the administrator for the program. G Suite for Nonprofits is free to qualifying organizations. Hi Alan, Question for you, if you have the time. I was looking into setting up a google group for our HLAA Greater Baltimore Chapter, and I slowly came to realize that the Groups setup by HLAA National are not Google Groups, but use a different technology from a different company called groups.io. This very email that I'm writing now is going to HLAATech at groups.io. So, what about groups.io? Did you look into using groups.io instead of google groups?
Should chapters be looking into Groups.io? Thanks for any comments you might have. Steve Wonnell Treasurer, HLAA, Greater Baltimore Chapter

Hi Steve
I'm just a volunteer moderator for this group. I do not know the history of the decision on using Groups.io. I do know the person who was probably associated with setting this up is very capable. I'm not familiar with Google Groups so I cannot go through the advantages and disadvantages of each platform. If you are considering Google Groups because you have a G Suite for Nonprofits (formerly Google for Nonprofits) it might be nice to have as much as possible in one place for your chapter. A glance at Google Groups leads me to believe Groups.io has more features but you may not need them. Hashtags, chat, polling, photos directory, files, databases, and Wiki are features I did not see in Google Groups. The calendar is no longer included with the free Groups.io plan. It is grandfathered into our plan. The HLAALeaders group uses the calendar feature to create a national calendar for chapter meetings. -- Alan Katsura Moderator HLAA Tech Group |

Dear Alan and all: Alan, thanks for sharing what you know. Just to clarify, is HLAA using the free version of Groups.io (with grandfathered calendar feature)? I've setup a preliminary google groups group for our chapter that the steering committee has been playing around with. Seems okay, so far. Groups.io looks like it might be easier, and I may give that a try. Steve
