New chapter president needs technical assistance asap
Dear Sir/Madam
My name is Janine Katomski and I'm the new president of the
Eastern Connecticut HLAA Chapter.
This Saturday, Feb 18th, our meeting is having a PowerPoint
presentation. I am a beginner with computers/technology, but
eager to learn and enable meetings for my members.
I have a new laptop (Windows 11) and want to use it to provide
live captioning at the meeting, during the presentation. We have
a microphone, HDMI cable for laptop and a projector screen.
We were hoping the projector screen could simultaneously show
its content, plus the captioning of it (bottom of screen?)
The various software applications are a bit confusing to me and
I need step by step guidance. I'm willing to install/pay for any
software on my laptop, to get started.
Thanks so much, in advance, for your help!\
Best,
Janine Katomski
President
Hi Alan,
It turned out we figured out a way to caption our meeting and the
Powerpoint presentation. It's an application I opened, with Google
Chrome - http://webcaptioner.com My new laptop has a built in
microphone so my words show up on my laptop screen and, with
a connecting HDMI cable to the AV system in our meeting room
that connects to a projection screen, everyone can follow what's
being said. We are using Microsoft 365 for Powerpoint which
has enabling capacity for captions, as well.
I also have a portable hearing loop for the meeting.
In any case, I'd love to Zoom sometime with you - you have been so
helpful to me. Would Wednesday or Thursday work for you? Today
is a bit hectic for me.
Best,
Janine

Janine,
Do you want to Zoom? I should have time after 1:00 p.m. today. Is the facility you are using have a PA system or looped? Text me if you want to Zoom.
