recommendations for a mic to use with a laptop
I am currently looking for a mic to go with my HP laptop. I would like that mic to have the capability to either be adapted to a boom or just be a USB attachment. I am looking to spend around the $200 -$300 range. Any recommendations??
Thanks,
Carolyn
You do not need to spend anywhere near that much, because it will not give you any better results, unless you are planning to make high-quality recordings of music. I suggest the NGS MS102, available from Amazon for a very low price. I suggest you buy one and see if it works to your satisfaction. If it does, you can then send the money you saved to me, or donate it to HLAA.

Built-in microphones in laptops are rarely
good for anything except speaking directly at it from about 12
inches away. They are omnidirectional, so pock up room
reverberation and background noise. That Singing Machine mic is
quite good, but it needs mounting on a stand for use with a
computer.

I just bought a new HP laptop and this mic (remote) for it:
Company: Singing Machine All - In- One Professional MicrophoneYes, it is advertised as being for singing or podcasting, but is also goodfor Video Conferencing.
By the way - your laptop should have an internal microphone. Anyonespeaking from a podium, could just have the laptop opened, on the podium, and speak clearly into the microphone.

It's omnidirectional, which is OK in a small
room, but in a meeting room a cardioid (directional) microphone
picks up less reverberation and background noise.

Hi Ann – thanks for these.
I am pretty sure they have these docs, but will pass them on to be sure that our records are complete.
Meanwhile, do you know of un/successful lawsuits that we should also be analyzing??
Maybe I should connect with Waldo on this too??

The Yeti USB microphone made by Blue consistently gets #1 reviews for Zoom, video conferencing. It is currenlty listed for $99 on Amazon.

So they should, at those prices, but for
speech communication through a computer they are quite
unnecessary. Much lower-cost microphones, but naturally not ALL
low-cost microphones, are perfectly suitable.
